Is the Crooner redundant?

Crooner, noun; A Singer, typically a male one, who sings sentimental songs in a soft low voice…

“2017 doesn’t have a place for the sophisticated man” – that’s according to The Crooners, a 9-piece mini big band on their way to Buxton in August.

The self-confessed suave singers said: “Our show coming to Buxton Opera House on Sunday 27 August is all about defending the role of a Crooner. The modern world doesn’t always seem the place for men of style and vigour. Men with a penchant for sentiment, romance and charm. Men who own tap shoes.”

During their aptly titled show Crooners, the group will pay homage to some of the greatest ‘Big Cs’ of all time, with songs from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Matt Monro, Nat King Cole, Bobby Darin and more.

Join three very British gentlemen, who are by their very nature self-assured, stylish and slightly smarmy – as they try to persuade us that “everyone needs a crooner”. Cue a splendiferous injection of British comedy and big band swing.

Crooners take place at Buxton Opera House on Sunday 27 August at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £20. To buy tickets contact Buxton Opera House Box Office, Tel 01298 72190 or visit www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk
