At a well-attended event organised by local charity Space4Autism, David Rutley MP took part in a question-and-answer session on issues affecting those with autism spectrum condition.
A range of important issues were discussed at the event at Macclesfield’s Tytherington Club, including the support available for people with autism, and their families and carers, and the wider challenges that people with autism can face during the course of their daily lives. David responded to questions about what more can be done to ensure that people with autism, whatever their age, can have access to the support and services that they need, and lead more independent and fulfilling lives.
Set up by local parents in 2005, Space4Autism provides advice and support to children, teenagers and adults on the autistic spectrum, and their families. The charity holds monthly parent support group meetings, workshops for professionals and carers, and clubs for children, teenagers and adults. David has visited the charity on a number of occasions during his time as Macclesfield’s MP, and has been impressed by Space4Autism’s work in the local community to raise awareness of autism-related issues.
Speaking after the event, David said, “I was pleased to be able to join Space4Autism’s members to discuss issues of importance to people with autism, and their families and carers. Space4Autism does invaluable work in the Macclesfield community, and I will continue to support its work going forward.”
