Peak District National Park consultation for new houses and businesses

Landowners, developers and agents are being invited to send in suggestions to the Peak District National Park of sites that could be suitable for future housing and employment needs.

The call for development sites is part of a Strategic Housing and Employment Land Availability Assessment (SHELAA) which will be used to provide evidence for future development plan reviews.

People can submit suggestions for any piece of land within the Peak District National Park.

Each suggested site will be considered against a set of criteria to determine its potential suitability, availability and achievability for development.

Policy planner Ian Fullilove said: “The consultation provides an opportunity for the National Park to look ahead to the future where development is concerned.

“Like all National Parks, the Peak District has the challenge of balancing development demands without impacting on the special qualities of the area that make it so important to those who live and work within and beyond its boundaries.

“Forward thinking consultations like this mean communities can get involved and it helps us to plan more effectively, ensuring the National Park meets everyone’s needs.”

The Peak District National Park Authority has commissioned consultants Peter Brett Associates to undertake the Strategic Housing and Employment Land Availability Assessment (SHELAA).

Including a site within the SHELAA does not necessarily mean that it is suitable for development or that any site is automatically allocated for development.

The form should be completed and returned together with a location plan of the site, clearly identifying the boundary of the site.

Supporting information can also be submitted with the form, particularly where it may assist the Authority in assessing the site.

People can submit their suggested sites up to 5pm on 19 January, 2018.
