A series of options are up for local discussion, when Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner, David Keane, visits The Grosvenor Shopping Centre in Macclesfield on Friday 26 January between 11am and 2pm.
Mr Keane will be available to discuss the police precept – a key component of homeowners’ annual council tax bills and to gauge the views of residents and businesses on potential police precept increases.
Alternatively, residents and business owners can visit https://www.cheshire-pcc.gov.uk/ to have their say online.
The Commissioner will also be consulting with businesses based in the county separately, and there will be a supply of leaflets and questionnaires at police help desks should people not be able to attend the events or fill in the questionnaire online.
Mr Keane appears to have been advised that we’d all be happy to pay more – to reduce the impact of a £5 million funding shortfall. He is now seeking our agreement to back up this assertion.
Editor: I’ve suggested that, in the light of our reports (below) and https://www.chesterchronicle.co.uk/news/chester-cheshire-news/cheshire-police-chief-hires-75840-13365158 they close down the Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner’s own department – which should save Cheshire Police at least £1 million.
