The 3rd Macclesfield Upton Priory Scout Group held its ever-popular quiz night recently.
The well-attended annual event, now in its 11th year, was supported by friends and families of the scouts. The Group raised almost £1,000, which will assist with the extension and refurbishment of the Scout Hut, which the 100-strong group of Cubs, Beavers and Scouts, plus their sixteen leaders, have now outgrown. The winners in the four-round general knowledge quiz received a case of wine, whilst a booby prize was awarded to the team in last place.
On the night, the commitment of one of the Group’s longstanding scout leaders, Ian Mackintosh, was honoured. Mr Mackintosh is leaving the Group as a result of work commitments outside of the Macclesfield area, but has been an active scout helper for 12 years. For his 60th birthday, he set up a donation page and raised £500 for the new Scout Hut, and presented the cheque to the Group on the night.
The 3rd Macclesfield Upton Priory Scout Group has been in existence for 110 years, having been registered in October 1908, making it one of the oldest scout groups in Cheshire. In celebration of over a century of continuous scouting – including through two World Wars – the Group will be holding a Group Camp later this year, in May.
The Group always welcomes more volunteers to help with the important work it is doing with local young people. Anyone who is interested in taking part in the fun and rewarding work carried out by the 3rd Macclesfield Upton Priory Scouts should contact the Group by email on 3rdmacc@gmail.com
Joining the quizzers for the event was local MP, David Rutley, who told us, “It is very positive to see that, well after 100 years since it was founded, 3rd Macclesfield Upton Priory Scouts continues to go from strength to strength, and I wish the Group well in its fundraising endeavours. Scouting offers so many opportunities both for younger people and for adult volunteers, and I would encourage more local people to get involved.”
