A primary school has being given a colourful revamp by a group of young people from Macclesfield as part of a Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service-led Prince’s Trust Project.
The team of 15 aged between 16 and 25 have been busy renovating the outdoor area at Bollinbrook CE Primary School, Abbey Road, Macclesfield. This work will allow more people to be able to use it. They group also painted the main hallway into the school and painted railings outside as part of the project.
As part of the 12-week programme the team had to complete a community project and choose the centre to work on and they got stuck in, sanding and painting walls then glossing wood work to help brighten and freshen the facility up for its users.
To help fund the project the team fundraised at Chess Telecom Ltd to raise money to buy paint and equipment to use on the project.
Josie Shearman is the Prince’s Trust Programme Manager for the team. She said: “The team did a great job on this project which looked amazing and was finished to a high standard. They should be very proud of how hard they worked to get the project finished but also that they raised enough money from a fundraising day to budget and buy all the materials.
“The Prince’s Trust Programme aims to move young people into full time employment. By doing this community project it helped them to not only gain practical experience but also skills in how to project manage and budget.”
The work was unveiled in front of local dignitaries and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service staff.
The Prince’s Trust Programme is led by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and gives young people between the ages of 16 and 25 the opportunity to learn new skills, complete qualifications and gain greater self-confidence. The primary focus is on team work within the community so the team is looking for local placements in a variety of roles.
Over the 12-week course the young people look to push themselves physically and mentally and the community project is part of the programme.
