Macclesfield District General Hospital has introduced wifi access in and around the hospital building using O2’s secure public wi-fi service.
The unlimited free service appears as ‘NHS wi-fi ‘ and users only need to register once to access any of the hotspots across the UK.
The hospital is asking users to show consideration to others when using the wi-fi – adding that recording, filming or taking photographs of patients and staff without their permission is forbidden.
Kath Senior, Director of Nursing, Performance and Quality, said: “For some time Macclesfield Hospital patients and visitors have been telling us that they would like wi-fi to enhance their stay, so we are delighted to be able to offer this service completely free of charge.
“It will mean that, where appropriate and providing it does not cause a disturbance to others, people on the site can use the internet and keep in touch with family and friends online more easily.”
She added restrictions on mobile phone use are also in place in some areas of the hospital, for example within the MRI suite and that people should ‘see signage or speak to a member of staff for guidance’.
