A special memorial service, commemorating the tragic explosion at Wood Treatment, Bosley, with the theme ‘supporting one another’, was held at St Mary’s Church in Bosley on Sunday 15th July 2018.

The moving service of remembrance, was attended by Member of Parliament for Macclesfield, David Rutley, Cllr Lesley Smetham, the Mayor of Cheshire East; Cllr Rachel Bailey, Leader of Cheshire East Council, representatives of Cheshire Constabulary and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and many local residents and friends.

The event provided the opportunity for the many attendees to pay respects to the families of those affected by the tragic incident at Bosley, and remember the four people who sadly lost their lives. At the service, it was confirmed that the names of those lost, Derek Moore, Dorothy Bailey, Jason Shingler and Will Barks, will be engraved on the back of the memorial bench in the church grave yard, later this month.

David Rutley continues to communicate with the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) over progress of the joint Police and HSE investigation into explosion, meeting recently with Iain Brodie, Deputy Director at the HSE, and Sally Nicholson, Head of Operations for the North West. Mr Brodie assured David that HSE continues to support the police-led investigation, with inspectors and specialists from a broad range of disciplines and divisions working very closely with officers from Cheshire Constabulary, and that positive progress is being made.

Speaking after the service, David said, “Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the families of those who lost loved ones in the tragic explosion at Wood Treatment Ltd. I continue to keep in contact with the HSE and met recently for a further update. At that meeting, senior HSE representatives assured me that the investigation remains thorough and rigorous. Local residents can be assured that I will continue to actively support these investigations, so that those affected by this tragic incident get the answers that they want and deserve.”
