Drive for just over an hour from Macclesfield, and just beyond Ashbourne, you’ll find Sudbury Hall – the historic country home of the Vernon family where you can get to know some of the amazing characters that over the centuries have moulded Sudburys.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage, throughout the hall you’ll discover stories from Sudbury women’s past – from humble housekeepers to influential wives – giving a snapshot into what makes Sudbury what it is today.
Take in the surroundings, look closer and admire the beautiful plasterwork, carvings and the stunning grand staircase. The building has a wealth of history and the National Trust staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
The Museum of Childhood, situated in the Hall’s old service wing, is a delight for all ages where you can discover something new, or relive nostalgic memories.
And whilst you’re at Sudbury, take a look around the village and check out the locations used for the BBC’s adaptation of Pride & Prejudice.
Take a picnic by the lake – or dine at the on-site cafe – and make a day of this beautiful home in the heart of England.
