Tug of War will pull in the crowds at Peover this weekend

Tug of war teams from around the country will be gathering at the Cheshire Game and Angling Fair at Peover Hall this Sunday 5 August to compete in the Cheshire Open Tug of War Championships.

Staged by the Cheshire Game and Angling Fair and Bosley Tug of War Club, the Championships and will be judged by Tug of War Association officials. This year, the event will also be hosting the Tug of War Associations national championship for the men’s catchweight division.

Teams from afar afield as Devon, Somerset, Sussex and Northumberland are expected at the event which will be held over 4 weight classes for men’s teams, 2 weight classes for ladies and junior teams, and also a mixed weight for senior teams, with each team comprising four men and four ladies. Each weight class was a combined weight of 8 pullers, with each team weighing in at the start of the day, with the teams not being allowed to exceed the nominated weight limit in each weight class.

The Tug of War proved to be a popular attraction Cheshire Game and Angling Fair since it was re-introduced back in the event in 2015, with large crowds gathering around the tug of war arena all day to watch the teams taking part battle it out in some thrilling competition.

Bosley team Spokesman Alan Knott“we are looking forward to a great day of competition. A  number of the teams taking part will be going on to represent England at the World Tug of War Championships in Cape Town, South Africa in September, so spectators will get an opportunity to see some of the best tug of war teams in both England and in the World taking part, with a number of the clubs taking part having won medals for England at the World Games and the European Championships in 2017”

“At present, we have 20 tug of war clubs from around the country registered to compete at the event, so it promises to be a great day of competition, and we hope that it will keep the crowds attending the GameFairentertained throughout the day”

In addition to the tug of war competitions, there are lots of other attractions to see at the CheshireGameand Angling Fair, including falconry, gundogs, horses, vintage and steam engines, farriers, archery, clay pigeon shooting, angling, craft and trade stands, food and drink, family entertainment and much more.
