Homebase under threat

Homebase has announced it could close up to 80 stores nationwide putting four local branches under threat.

Homebase has already closed 17 unprofitable stores as it struggles to stay afloat and up to 1,000 jobs could be lost if the company presses ahead with its plans.

Branches at Lyme Green in Macclesfield, Sandbach, Altrincham and Bredbury are potentially at risk.

Homebase would be following in the footsteps of House of Fraser, Mothercare and Carpetright who have all been forced to take desperate measures in the fight to survive the slow death of traditional retail.
