The Silkmen and The Hammers meet up tonight in the Carabao Cup.
Here’s the lowdown.
Where and when?
West Ham United v Macclesfield Town
Carabao Cup Third Round
London Stadium
Wednesday 26 September 2018, 7.45pm
Macclesfield Town have made history by reaching the third round of the League Cup for the first ever time this season.
In their first campaign back in the Football League, following their title-winning National League season last term, the Silkmen defeated Bradford City and Walsall – both on penalties – to reach round three.
Their league form has been less impressive, and they currently sit at the foot of League Two with two points from nine games.
This is their second spell as a League club, having played mostly in League Two – with one season in League One – between 1997 and 2012, then winning promotion against last year.
Manager and club legend John Askey moved on to Shrewsbury Town in the summer, with former Kidderminster Harriers and Cheltenham Town player Mark Yates moving into the hot seat.
Previous meetings
The Hammers have met Macclesfield twice before in their history.
The first came back in January 2002 when the east Londoners triumphed 3-0 at Moss Rose in a FA Cup third round tie.
Then, in August 2008, the Silkmen visited the Boleyn Ground in the League Cup second round.
Macclesfield took a fifth minute lead through Gareth Evans, but Lee Bowyer’s second half equaliser spared West Ham’s blushes and forced extra time, during which Carlton Cole, Zavon Hines and Kyel Reid netted to seal a 4-1 win.
How to get there
The Central and Jubilee Lines, TfL Rail, London Overground and DLR services calling at Stratford, Hackney Wick and Pudding Mill Lane are all scheduled to run as normal on Wednesday.
