This famous Macclesfield market, which pitches up on the last Sunday of every month* on the handsome cobbles of the Market Place, has reinvigorated the heart of this traditional market town.
Jane Munro, Treacle’s co-founder, says: “I can’t quite believe we’ve hit 100! It’s such a testament to our wonderful traders and the thousands of people who visit each month to enjoy our unique offer.”
This November and December Treacle marketplace will be extra sparkly, illuminated by the town’s giant Christmas tree, with plenty of traditional but contemporary festive cheer including street food, spiced wine, chestnuts, carols and a brass band. December Treacle on Sunday 23 December, will have donkey rides and an old-fashioned merry-on-round for little ones. The perfect place to meet up with friends and family for a little pre-Christmas celebration!
Jane Munro says: “Treacle is so much more than just a market – it’s a place to meet friends, enjoy the atmosphere of the town and support your local makers and bakers who produce fabulous handcrafted wares. Spending money locally is a great way to bolster your community, so we look forward to welcoming everyone to Treacle this Christmas.”
Treacle is considered a trail blazer as the first of this kind of Artisan market, with over 170 stalls selling unique crafts, locally produced food and drink and vintage finds. It was established in 2010 and each month sees the marketplace, Old Butter Market, St Michael’s churchyard and the surrounding streets throng with visitors from all over the North and Midlands, some arriving in coaches, keen to experience the unique mix of stalls, complete with notoriously friendly makers and traders. Dogs are made welcome too, with many expected to be sporting Christmas outfits this year!
Treacle was shortlisted for the BBC Food and Farming Awards and was noted in the Top 10 Best Farmers Market by The Independent.
Celebrate Christmas at Treacle on Sunday 25 November and Sunday 23 December from 10am – 3.30pm in Macclesfield marketplace.
*apart from December, when it always falls on a Sunday before Christmas.
