In 2018, employees from AstraZeneca, have helped local charities and community groups by volunteering over 900 days of their time to improve facilities for 35 local groups.
Their efforts during the year have included painting & decorating, building sensory wigwams and improving gardens. Recently, festive volunteering has seen teams from the company helping put up Christmas decorations, baking mince pies and creating Christmas food hampers for distribution among the local community. Support has been provided to care facilities, charities and local schools to name a few.
AstraZeneca call the scheme ‘iVolunteer’ and this is the third year it has been run to help local groups. Commenting on the scheme, coordinator Andrew Higgins said: “Our employees have been delighted and humbled to contribute their time, resource and energy, helping to give a little something back to those in need. The feedback we get from our volunteers is fantastic and many are already booking to help out again in 2019.”
A spokesperson from a local school in Macclesfield who hosted volunteers to upgrade their outdoor play area said: “Thank you, thank you, thank you. The children were so excited to see the changes the following day. They ran outside and stopped suddenly when they saw what had been done. I must’ve heard 20 wows!”
