TEDxMacclesfield 2019

Speakers at this year’s TEDx Macclesfield, who will be sharing the passion for their subjects on Saturday 4th May at Townley Street Chapel, are hoping to challenge, educate and inspire with their thoughts.

Speakers include:
Dr Rachael Ainsworth, Research Associate and Open Science Champion at the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Manchester. Rachael is passionate about openness and transparency in research. Rachael explores the academic culture which can lead to bad science and her talk at TEDxMacclesfield follows the simple formula Open Science = better research.

Poet, activist and Director of Moormaid Press, Dr Ailsa Holland is a passionate campaigner for equality, a placard and banner-maker. Since 2018 she has co-curated the women-in-history twitter project @OnThisDayShe. A Macclesfield resident, Ailsa will use her time at TEDxMacclesfield to talk about the importance of putting women back into history – be they fabulous, flawed or even dangerous.

A chartered engineer with a second degree in Development Studies, Macclesfield resident Barbara Evans is Professor in Public Health Engineering at the University of Leeds leading a team that works to bring clean water and sanitation to the global south. She’ll reveal how her stark yet effective innovation, the ‘Shit Flow Diagram’ is shifting perceptions and saving lives.
