On Saturday May the Fourth, the Force was in Macclesfield, was visited by some well-known Star Wars characters to join in with the international Star Wars Day celebrations!
The Imperial Icons spent the day bringing some fun from a galaxy far away to the town centre streets.
Organised by Macclesfield Town Council, visitors to the Town Centre enjoyed meeting some of their favourite Star Wars friends (and enemies) and having their photograph taken with them.
Local resident Liz Blaydon brought her son Jack into the town centre to see characters from his favourite film as a surprise treat. Liz said ‘It was a wonderful day for Jack…a memorable day doesn’t even go far enough to describe how amazing it was for Jack. Thank you very much indeed to Macclesfield Town Council for organising this.’
Armageddon tattoo studio on Mill St donated proceeds from anyone having a Star Wars tattoo on the day to East Cheshire Hospice.
Yvonne Lennard, Shop Manager of Artmageddon tattoo studio commented that “All the staff at Artmageddon were thrilled with the turn out for the day, and are immensely grateful to the customers who donated time, skin and money to East Cheshire Hospice. There is always a noticeable increase in the number of visitors to the town on days such as May 4th, and it is great that the town council recognise the importance of investing in fun, inclusive days such as these, especially with characters as universally appealing and recognisable as the Imperial Icons.”
Helena Gowler, Community Engagement and Events Officer for Macclesfield Town Council said ‘Bringing a bit of the dark side to the town was popular last year when we held it on the Friday but with it falling on the Saturday this year, a lot more people were able to come along and enjoy it. An estimated 2,000 additional people came into the town centre on the day. We have really enjoyed seeing everyone’s photographs being shared on social media. Star Wars Day will return to Macclesfield in 2020!!
