Campbell and Hreiðarsson leave the Moss

Macclesfield Town Manager, Sol Campbell, has left the Silkmen along with assistant coach Hermann Hreiðarsson.

The Macclesfield Town FC website made the following accouncement earlier today: Macclesfield Town can confirm that after eight months with the club and successfully leading us to League Two safety last season, we have mutually agreed to part ways with manager Sol Campbell.

This has been conducted in the most amicable of ways and there has been total transparency between the club and Sol regarding the challenges which face lower league clubs such as Macclesfield Town.

We have a very competitive squad in place, as demonstrated by our opening games of the new season and this certainly bodes well for the future.

Sol’s passion, drive and football knowledge will always be remembered at the Moss Rose with fondness and he has issued the following statement in light of the above –

“Macclesfield Town provided me with a great beginning in the managerial side of the game, as well as a fantastic learning curve which I am truly grateful for.

“I would like to thank all the players and staff for their support during my time at the Moss Rose and also all the loyal fans, whose belief at the end of last season ultimately played a tangible role in our success.”

We will be making a further announcement on the appointment of a new coach as soon as possible.

Finally, we would like to thank Sol for his time at the club – not only in helping us retain our League Two status, but also for installing a winning mentality which we now hope to build on.

According to footbolti.net Macclesfield assistant coach Hermann Hreiðarsson has also left the club.

This summer Hermann joined Macclesfield as assistant coach. He and Campbell, who were a key player in the England defense at the time, are well known after playing together at Portsmouth from 2007 to 2009.

Hermann has been with Macclesfield at every practice and every game for the past few weeks.

Macclesfield has a lot of uncertainty about financial difficulties and they decided to step down today.

“We just walked out now,” Hermann says in a conversation with Football.net.

“There was money problems or whatever it was last season. It had been promised to change it, but that may have changed in a month. So this has followed us through the preparation and into the season. It does tie a little bit on the human hands in what needs to be done. “

“This is a shame because a lot of work has been done to put together a good group. It would have been nice to follow it. It’s mostly a shame with the boys. This is a young team and it would have been fun to be able to follow it. But then a lot had to change. “

“It was a great puzzle and a lot of players that went. But it was also incredibly fun and you have now got the butter flavor from this, “says Hermann, who was the first to coach in England after playing for 15 years as a player.

During his coaching career, Hermann has coached IBB, Fylki, Fylki’s women’s team, and then was the assistant coach of another former teammate, David James, at Kerala Blasters in India last year.

All fans will be understand what is not said. The next manager will take over a well motivated and effective side which was improving every game.[^]

I have begun thinking last few months that i am sure AA wants to deliberateley run it into the ground for an alterior motive??

Well mr AA you have succeeded here!, there is not a bl#dy chance i am attending macclesfield again whilst you are still in charge!! The sooner you f”#k off the better !!!!, youve crippled a club and crippled a community!

Including this phrase in the statement would suggest that despite being ‘pre-warned’ in this way, the challenges have become insurmountable or unacceptable.
I would have been relatively happy (though disappointed) if he had left for a good opportunity at a bigger club.
