Since the school reopened after lockdown on Monday 1st June children have benefitted from a curriculum designed around the great outdoors and emotional wellbeing.
And, they are loving the opportunities and variety this brings.
Headteacher Ms Bromley commented ‘We were all a little tearful when we locked the school gates on Friday 20th March not knowing when they might reopen. It’s so wonderful to be back in business and seeing our fantastic children respond so well to the changes we’ve implemented at school. As a staff team we all see the benefit of learning outside the classroom so the rest of this term will see us outdoors every afternoon whatever the weather – we’re covering Science, Maths, English, Geography and PSHE but just not at the desk!’
To date the children have visited the friendly local farm to meet the lambs born during lockdown, explored their overgrown forest-school base, observed, identified and sketched on a wildflower walk, done yoga in the cricket field and planted seedlings – all whilst maintaining social distancing.
Year 6 student Rose who heads off to High School in September added ‘It’s great to be back, I wasn’t sure that I’d get the chance to see my old school, friends and teachers again so I’m really happy. We’re all enjoying a slightly different school and the fun afternoons outdoors.’
