There was a very special visitor at the National Trust’s Lyme Park yesterday – a life-size cake of Mr Darcy was unveiled to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the BBC Pride and Prejudice series.
The Mr Darcy cake
Lyme was used as Pemberley, Mr Darcy’s home, in the 1995 series. In the scene Colin Firth, playing Mr Darcy, emerged clothed from the lake after a swim and made Lyme one of TV’s most iconic backdrops.
World renowned cake designer, Michelle Wibowo, worked on the creation of Darcy in cake form; a process which took over 200 hours.
Despite the rain, Mr Darcy did manage to stay dry on this visit, and we can confirm that no soggy bottoms featured in the making of this cake.
