Woman charged with Bridge Street arson

A 27-year-old woman has been charged with arson with recklessnes as to whether life was endangered. Emma Atkins, of Bridge Street, Macclesfield will appear at North Cheshire Magistrates today (30 December).

Emergency services were called to the fire on the ground floor of a terraced house in Bridge Street, Macclesfield at around 6.00 am on Tuesday 29 December.

Firefighters succeeded in rescuing a woman in her 20’s, from a first floor window. The woman was taken to Macclesfield hospital suffering from suspected smoke inhalation.

DC Sarah Sayer said: “We’re currently carrying out a joint investigation with fire investigators from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service to establish the circumstances. I would urge anyone who saw or heard any suspicious behaviour in the hour before the fire to contact us. The same goes for anyone who has CCTV.

“If you were driving on Bridge Street between 5am and 6.15am and have any dashcam footage that may help please get in touch.”
