Police and firefighters were called out when a surprised walker spotted a Land Rover Discovery in the middle of the River Dane at Wincle.
The car proved to be empty so a search of the nearby area was carried out using thermal imaging.
The vehicle’s owner was later found safe and well, however the emergency services were unable to retrieve the car due to the depth and speed of the water.
We anticipate the vehicle’s exterior will be fairly clean when it finally emerges from the river although an internal search may result in several trout.
UPDATE:
Cheshire Police subsequently issued an update saying two people have been fined for breaking lockdown regulations.
The post read: “Following on from last week’s post regarding the 4×4 that became stuck whilst trying to do a river crossing in high waters.
“We have now issued two Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) to two people, from different households and not in a support bubble, who travelled into Wildboarclough without reasonable excuse during the lockdown.
“Officers had no choice but to issue these FPNs in order to protect the NHS and save lives.”
