The £90 million Congleton Link Road will be completed within the next few months, ending years of vehicular log-jams in the town.
The bypass is intended to ease traffic congestion, cut pollution and improve air quality in the surrounding areas, by connecting the A534 Sandbach Road, to the west of Congleton to the A536 Macclesfield Road near Eaton.
A Cheshire East spokesperson said that the scheme was progressing well, despite the recent wintry weather and the pandemic.
The 3.5 mile highway will also create road space for cyclists and pedestrians and improve access to Radnor Park Industrial Estate and Congleton Business Park.
As a result of the scheme 20 hectares of new employment land will be released, with the potential to create 3,000 jobs by 2035 and provide development sites for around 2,400 new homes.
Planning for the Congleton Link Road began in 2012 and permission was granted the following July.
The Department for Transport gave the final go-ahead for Cheshire East Council to buy land for the route in 2018 before construction began in 2019.
