Not sure what to do this weekend? Don’t worry we have it covered. On Saturday June 19 Barnaby Bright activities will be in full swing. All we ask is that you need to plan ahead, get your tickets for the events here and be aware of how to stay covid-safe
Artists and makers from Macclesfield and beyond will be selling their work at the Visual Arts and Crafts Market in the courtyard area of St Michael and All Angels in Market Place from 10am to 3.30pm. The market is free to attend with no booking required, but please remember to wear a mask and keep your distance.
Traders will include Dick Vincent Illustrations who will be selling his distinctive cards and pictures providing an opportunity to pick something up for Father’s Day. In Twos and Threes takes embroidery to a whole new level with witty phrases and unexpected twists. Jewellery will also be on sale from traders such as Alison Stairmand who makes contemporary pieces using recycled silver and gold. And, no market would be complete without Marc Makes Comics cartoon capers.
Macc Assemble is this year’s Barnaby Bright parade takes the form of a show reel filmed and arranged by arts collective IDST! that will be screened at St Michael’s and All Angels Church in Market Place on Saturday June 19 at 12noon. No advance booking is needed.
Our Future is Ancient is a free exhibition in the historic Savage Chapel Tower, which features work from artist Simon Buckley who works under the name Not Quite Light. Simon began visiting Macclesfield Forest in December 2019 on the winter solstice. He documented his visits every month capturing beautiful atmospheric images around the dawn of the full moon. The exhibition will feature a film and images and no advance booking is needed.
Later on, the performance of Our Future is Ancient will take place at St Michael’s Church from 8pm. Simon will be accompanied by musicians Rioghnach Connolly, who performs with groups The Breath and Honeyfeet, and cellist Liz Hanks who will be playing original, traditional and improvised music as part of the multi-media performance. Tickets are £10 in advance here.
British visual artist Liz West has been commissioned to create a new site-specific installation for Barnaby and Presence is now in Christ Church on Bridge Street in Macclesfield. It is free to visit but timed entry tickets need to be booked in advance with slots available over the weekend.
On Sunday June 20, a special event will be taking place at RedWillow on Park Green to celebrate the launch of a new art beer Estival. The design of the can and pump clip features a painting by artist Sue Asbury. Devised by RedWillow’s expert brewers the beer is a hoppy session IPA at 4.2% ABV which will be perfect for summer drinking.
The event, on Father’s Day, will feature an exhibition of the series of Estival paintings by Sue Asbury Biryani boxes will be served between 2pm and 6pm and there will be an Indian Goat street food truck serving up a Barnaby Bright menu from 6pm until 9pm. Sue Asbury’s paintings will be on sale along with the beer.
As you should be aware there has been a delay in the government roadmap for the removal of COVID-19 restrictions. All Barnaby Bright events are planned in line with step 3 restrictions and are operating within current guidelines.
