Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer, has launched his Autumn Survey today – and copies will be dropping through your letterboxes over the week.
You’re being asked about policing and crime in the community, but the underlying question is – are you happy with another annual increase to the police precept – which is added to your council tax bill.
Every year, because so few respond to the survey – and many, having no online access are unable to – your council tax bill increases.
And every year, despite reassurances, fewer and fewer police officers are visible – and those that are appear to have their priorities a tad skewed. Check out the main image – does this cockeyed idea, from a senior Cheshire Police Officer, really tackle crime or make you feel safer?
Coinciding with the annual appeal for an increase in funding is the news that Wilmslow Police Station is to be closed – to be replaced by a new building – housing a telephone help system. Cheshire constabulary say: “More people than ever are now choosing to contact the force by phone or via online services and the Constabulary are looking to prioritise resources in these key areas in order to meet the demand from the public.”
Effectively that means if you’re unable to ‘phone or have no access to a computer – and need help – forget it.
it’s your call as to whether you’re happy to pay yet more again this year – but take the survey – and make your thoughts known.
