Macclesfield will celebrate 100 years of the Royal British Legion with a poppy projection onto the Town Hall.
It’s 100 years since the formation of the Royal British Legion and to honour the fallen since WWI, Macclesfield Town Council have commissioned North Rode based projection company Lightech to project a field of red poppies onto the Georgian façade of Macclesfield Town Hall.
After a few false starts with regards to location, the Town Council team were offered space by local landlord Richard Johnson, who was only too happy to offer an empty floor of a property he owns.
Town Centre Manager for Macclesfield Town Council, Abi Sherratt said “The Town Council have a great relationship with the Macclesfield branch of the Royal British Legion, and we wanted to do something to show our support for this year’s Poppy Appeal, as well as to celebrate the 100th year of the Legion. The poppy projection was a great way for us to do this, we are so pleased with how it turned out, and we hope the people of Macclesfield will take a moment to remember the fallen when they see it.”
The poppy projection display will be visible at the Town Hall in Market Place until Sunday 14th November between 3:30pm and 11pm.
The poppy projection is only one part of the Town Council’s Remembrance events this year. A service for Remembrance Sunday will be held at the Park Green Cenotaph on 14th November 2021, starting just before 11am and on 11th November at 11am, there will a 2 minute silence in Market Place outside the Town Hall where The Mayor of Macclesfield and the Chair of the Royal British Legion will say a few words.
