It’s pretty evident that ‘Grauniad’ writer, Joel Golby, isn’t a Robbie Savage fan.
In his review of Making Macclesfield FC, Golby went for Rob’s jugular, trashing this genuinely entertaining and interesting piece of tv, even appearing to suggest a better title would have been The Robbie Savage Show.
What Mr Golby didn’t seem to grasp is that the documentary was intended to focus on the two men who offered a future to a much-loved and missed community football club – the double act of Savage and Smethurst – with Savage playing the joker.
I stopped reading Golby’s diatribe when he mentioned Macc’s new 3G pitch – possible confusing it with his mobile ‘phone network. Macc’s new pitch is a 4G, state-of-the-art all weather one.
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, the two Rob’s, against all the odds, have resurrected football for Macclesfield folk – and I have every confidence in their ability to carve out a long and successful era for Macclesfield Football Club.
Judging by the increasing gates I also have to assume that most thinking Macc football fans fully support their efforts.
In the programme Savage confessed that some unecessary, nasty and vindictive social media comments had affected him.
I have no doubt that the imbeciles who penned those vitriolic comments are cut from the same cloth as Joel Golby.
