The Macclesfield Academy recently hosted a spelling bee competition for Year 5 students from primary schools across the area.
After several knockout rounds Isla from Wincle School was crowned the winner with Thomas and Salma from Bollinbrook School rounding out the top three.
The Academy’s English teacher, Mrs Ellis, who organised the event, said: “We were really impressed by the children as they took to the stage for their spellings.
“At the Macclesfield Academy we are passionate about celebrating literacy and reading and we will definitely be holding more spelling contests in the future.”
The Macclesfield Academy also welcomed the arrival of the star dome, a mobile planetarium to the school last week.
Pupils were taken on a journey through the stars that are visible during different seasons of the year.
Head of Science, Miss Ainsworth, said: “It was fantastic to share the star dome experience with our visiting Primary schools.
“The children learnt about star constellations and how they got their names. At the Macclesfield Academy we believe it’s so important to spark an interest in science at a young age.”
