Cheshire East Council is offering a whole host of free and healthy activities for children during the festive holidays for those children who are eligible for income related free school meals.
Free places are being provided by nurseries, schools, colleges and community and voluntary sector organisations, which were successful in receiving grant funding as part of the government’s holiday activity fund.
The council received more than £880,000 of funding from the Department for Education’s programme, which aims to make free places available to children aged between four and 16, who are eligible for income related free school meals. The aim of the programme is to ensure that children and young people eat more healthily, are more active over the school holidays, learn about healthy nutrition and enjoy time with other children in a safe environment.
Around 1,500 free places are available to book now with 22 providers delivering around 8,000 sessions across the borough. Activities include arts and crafts, sport and outdoor fun.
Activities run from Monday 20 December and can be viewed by visiting: www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/FIS or contacting the council’s Family Information Service on 0300 123 5033.
