Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer, has launched his ‘Your Police Budget 2022/23’ survey in which residents are asked to give their views on the police precept – the part of your council tax that goes towards Cheshire Constabulary.
The police precept rises year on year – only you can decide if you wish to pay even more.
Mr Dwyer said: “I believe this budget represents what residents of Cheshire have told me they want. More officers, better call response times, and an increased focus on tackling ASB and making our roads safer.”
I seem to recall that similar promises are made year on year – the reality is what we get is more initiatives like the ‘clown’ car in the main image – does it really deter criminals? Does it make you feel safer?
The Commissioner is asking residents if they would be willing to pay approximately 83p per month extra via the police precept, for the average band D household.
It doesn’t sound much, but with energy costs going through the roof and no doubt the fire authority will be pursuing the same, these small amounts could be the breaking point for many.
