A new café, hoping to tap into the lucrative Airbnb market, is to be opened in Macclesfield by Laura Myall.
Conversion of the former Lux kitchen showroom on Chestergate has been approved by Cheshire East Council.
A previous application to convert the shop into a café plus eight room house of multiple occupation with shared kitchen facilities had been refused.
A report by Ms Myall’s agent stated the new application had addressed concerns that had seen the original application fail – namely the standard of living accommodation provided.
His report stated: “Residents will have access to their room, the hall and the café/bar lounge at the front of the property.
“They will not have access to the kitchen, and there will be no cooking facilities within their rooms.
“All guests will have other permanent’ accommodation elsewhere, that will be maintained for the duration of their short stay.
“Residents will typically book and pay for their accommodation online and receive a key code in order to gain access to their room. Guests will be able to order meals for consumption either in their rooms or within the café.”
Despite three objections – relating to noise, smells, overlooking of neighbours and an already large number of bars in Macclesfield – the plans were approved.
Mr Vendy said: “It is anticipated that the vast majority of the customers will be from the business community during the week, who require a short stay to facilitate a contract or event.
“During the weekends this is anticipated to change to private individuals who require accommodation for weekend breaks.”
