Covid-related absences have soared by 400% in a month at Macclesfield District General Hospital.
East Cheshire NHS data indicates 160 absences – due either to sickness or self-isolation – by early January – whilst on December the second, this number was 29.
IA spokesman for East Cheshire NHS Trust said: “In line with other hospitals across the country, the trust has robust plans in place to manage staff pressures due to absences related to Covid-19.
“Our staff continue to work around the clock to ensure patients receive safe and timely care.
“We would like to reassure our patients and the public that our services remain open for anyone who needs them, and people should continue to come forward for care, using Macclesfield Hospital’s Emergency Department when appropriate for serious illnesses or injuries.
“Members of the public can help us to reduce the spread of Covid-19 by getting their vaccinations and boosters to protect themselves and their families and reduce pressure on health services.”
The trust restricted hospital visiting on December 31, limiting it to patients receiving end of life care or those with learning disabilities and mental health issues. These remain in place.
