I awoke this morning to find a text message on my phone purporting to be from my bank.
“***** Bank has noticed your ***** Bank Card ending in *** was used online on 25-01-2022 00:05:00m at VENSGBP for £20. This payment was declined. If this was you please reply YES, otherwise reply NO. There is no need to call us. Responding to this text is the quickest way to update your account.”
Being half asleep – and thus off-guard I immediately responded “NO”
Seconds later I received the following:
“Thanks for confirming that it wasn’t you making the payment. We will call you as soon as we can between 0800-21:00. Out of these hours please call us on +443330459642.”
By this time I’d come to my senses and realised this may be a scam – so Googled “where is +443330459642”
Perhaps unsurprisingly it was confirmed that the call emanated from out of the country.
