Cumberland Street trailer fire

Fire crews from Macclesfield and Bollington fire ftations were called to a blaze just off the Sainsbury roundabout on Cumberland Street at around 1 pm today (Thursday, 24th March).

The triple axle braked trailer being towed by a lorry, carrying heavy metal pipework, had caught fire – probably from seized brakes.

It took the fire crews just a few minutes to dowse the blaze – during which heavy, black smoke poured from one of the trailer tyres which exploded sending many onlookers for cover.
