Saturday 13th August saw the first civic event of the Mayor of Macclesfield, Councillor Fiona Wilson.
In dazzling sunshine we were happy to welcome so many members of our community to gather around the bandstand and celebrate a century of South Park.
Free of charge we provided our guests with two hundred afternoon tea boxes from Dinah’s Deli, two hundred drinks from Wild Tatama and two hundred ice creams from Granelli’s.
In fact everything for this event, from the picnic blanket fabric to the bamboo cutlery, was sourced right here in Macclesfield. We are proud to support local business’ and will continue to do so for all our upcoming events.
All proceeds from the Mayor’s civic events go to Cllr Wilson’s chosen charities for the year: The North West Air Ambulance and Macclesfield Youth Brass Band and we would like to thank everyone who donated so generously.
We gathered to celebrate South Park of past and present, but also took time to look ahead to the South Park of the future. The consultation point for our new pavilion was extremely well attended on Saturday and more than 250 people filled in the questionnaires to share their views on what they’d like the new pavilion building to look like from a range of potential designs. We’ll be out again in South Park for the S:Park Centenary Celebration on Sunday 21st August and at the Treacle Market on Sunday 28th August.
Lastly, we would like to recognise the volunteers who gave up their time to make this event such a success, from the Mayor and everyone at the Town Council; Thank You!
