Raising awareness of Alopecia

Macclesfield MP, David Rutley, recently met with Sue Schilling, Chief Executive of Alopecia UK.

Ms Schilling highlighted the vital work the charity is doing to improve the lives of those living with Alopecia in the UK. 

During the meeting, Macclesfield based Ms Schilling explained that there are a number of types of alopecia, which can all lead to hair loss, effecting around 15 in 10,000 people across the globe. The effects of alopecia can cause significant anxiety and depression and that is why Alopecia UK are prioritising better education of the condition, raising awareness of how it can affect individuals and how they can be supported.

Alopecia UK is the largest charity, providing support for over 20,000 individuals in their community affected by the condition. The charity was founded in 2004 and since then has been working on three core aims, support, awareness and research. 

Alopecia UK are also currently undertaking significant research into why the condition affects more individuals from South Asia, to help further understand the condition.
