Last night we ventured to our favourite theatre in Buxton to watch Cirque The Greatest Show.
Two adults plus two children (aged 7 and 9), all eagerly awaiting the evening for months.
The curtains lifted to reveal a Marcel Marceau-like mime artist who led us from a world of black and white to a magical world of technicolour.
The excitement in the theatre was palpable, as the recognisable thud of drums from ‘The Greatest Show’ song banged out their beat… feet began to tap and hands began to clap, to the first tune of the night. The stage exploded into a kaleidoscope of colours and the song erupted into full swing.
Over the next two hours, incredibly talented singers belted out tunes from some of our favourite Broadway shows, as the amazingly talented aerialists, gymnasts and contortionists wowed and thrilled us with their their jaw dropping feats, agility and flair.
There was roller skating, dancing, aerobatics, gymnastics, juggling, cyr wheeling, fire performing and more.
The Marcel Marcaeu character linked each section of the show with his magic making antics and had the theatre “oooo-ing, ahhh-ing ” and roaring with laugher throughout.
So, did Cirque live up to its title of being ‘The Greatest Show’?… absolutely and unequivocally yes.
Thank you Cirque for giving us such an spectacular night in our favourite place for entertainment… Buxton opera House
