The end of the school term is upon us and the Ranger Service, and our event partners, have lots of events coming up to get you and the family out into the countryside.
August’s events are a mix of activities including kids holiday clubs, a chance to be a citizen scientist at a bioblitz, some kayaking, paddle boarding & climbing and an opportunity to learn more about the Bollin Valley Partnership conservation grazing cattle.

Tuesday, 1 August – Outdoor Fitness Class at Astbury Mere Country Park
Are looking for a fitness class during the week that’s outside and you can bring your child?
Open to everyone even if you are wanting to add extra training to your week or wanting to get fit after having a child in a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. No matter what fitness level you are the class can be tailored to suit all abilities.
The sessions vary each week depending on numbers and the weather. They can include full body toning, cardio sessions, core work and flexibility.
Suitable for anyone over the age of 18. No booking necessary, just turn up and pay as you go £6 per person.
This event repeats every Tuesday morning of the month.

Wednesday, 2 August – Fancy a Paddle – Three
Another chance to learn a little bit about canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding on the beautiful Rudyard Lake. The event is delivered by Moorland Adventure. Full instruction equipment and buoyancy aids will be provided.

Thursday, 3 August – Plein Air Painting Workshop: Features of the Landscape
If you want to get out of the studio and paint outdoors this series of workshops with Christopher Clements and Kieran Ingram will guide you through some of the key things you need to know. Each workshop focuses on a different fundamental of painting the landscape.
Learning to draw and paint the form of your subject is important but it’s not until it’s arranged as a composition that it becomes a work of art. This workshop is all about designing your painting. Learning to think beyond individual forms and onto an overall design which creates dynamism and communicates your intentions.

A great way to experience some varied exciting activities in the countryside with local experts Moorland Adventure! Each day focuses on different activities and will give you a taste of adventure! This is a unique event with a chance to come and see the Bollin Valley Partnership’s Longhorn cattle. Meet some of our amazing cows and calves with the Countryside Rangers on hand to talk to you about the importance of the cattle in the management of our country parks.
There will also be activities for children to help learn more about the cattle.

This is the annual ‘Bioblitz’ at Riverside Park. In partnership with the Mersey Rivers Trust, join experts discovering the birds, wildflowers, minibeasts and water life that can be found within the park.
Drop-in activities throughout the day include butterfly walks, pond and river dipping, environmental art and wildlife stands in partnership with Mersey Rivers Trust.

A five mile walk in the parishes of Prestbury and Mottram St Andrew. The walk will include not only local history and local stories of the land and buildings we pass with a smattering of folklore of things we discover.
