Animal Crackers At Lyme

As part of their Christmas celebrations, the National Trust’s Lyme Park has launched Animal Crackers, a magical story of Christmas fun which takes place through the house.

Macclesfield MP, David Rutley, met with General Manager, Kellie Scott to see the decorations and discuss future plans for Lyme Park.

Between now and Christmas Eve, visitors to Lyme Park can immerse themselves in a unique Christmas experience: Animal Crackers. David heard how in the imaginary world, animals of all kinds have taken over the house for their own Christmas adventure. From yoga cows to karaoke with badgers to enjoying the historic house dressed up traditionally for Christmas, there is something for everyone to enjoy during a festive day out.

Ms Scott explained that the house has a packed programme of Christmas events taking place over the Christmas period. Carol singing performances will take place in the Lyme’s Timber Yard every afternoon from the 16th -24th December, with a special performance in the courtyard of the house on Christmas Eve. Visitors can also enjoy a festive afternoon tea or explore the acres of land through a winter walk.

The meeting also provided the opportunity for David to hear about the future plans for Lyme Park. With over 340,000 visitors a year and 2-3,000 on a normal Sunday, it is important that the visitor experience is at the front of all plans. The National Trust has submitted plans to upgrade their facilities, with a focus on the traffic along the A6, with local partners to support initiatives such as a reduction in the speed limit.

Ms Scott outlined the work the Trust has already completed on flood mitigation to improve the estate and surrounding communities following the floods in 2019. Leaky dams have been installed, which play an important role in slowing the flow of flood water, as well as proposals for interventions which will see water away from the house and gardens to slow the flow of water and reduce flooding at Lyme and in local communities.

Speaking after the visit, David said “Anyone looking for a festive day out between now and Christmas Eve should definitely visit Lyme Park to see the fantastic Animal Crackers. It’s an immersive experience which has something for every member of the family! Lyme Park is a huge visitor attraction and a much-valued community asset. I look forward to continuing to work closely with the team as they shape their plans for the future.”
