Macclesfield Literary and Philosophical Society

Macc Lit and Phil Society’s season continues on Tuesday 16th January starting at the usual time 7.30 pm at Macclesfield Library.

Ed Griffen spoke in early 2021 about the co-operative hunt for finding a drug treatment for Coronaviruses. Now he returns to give an update.

The title of Ed’s talk is “Open-source Drug discovery for SARS-CoV2 and Future Pandemics”.

Open-source is a term first used about computer software, in which the original source code of the software is made freely available for people to study or modify. An example would be the Linux operating system as opposed to Windows which is closed-source. Most drugs are “closed-source” in that how to produce them is not freely available, whereas for open-source drugs it would be.

We hope to see you at the meeting.
