Serious sexual assault in Knutsford

Cheshire Police are investigating a serious assault on young Knutsford girl.

Police were called on Sunday evening (12 May) at around 9 pm. They were advised that during 11 pm, the previous evening and early morning on the 12th, a 17-year-old girl had been raped in Knutsford..

The girl was in and around Knutsford town centre and Mobberley Road area when the incident occurred.

The victim is being supported by officers and enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances.

DI Rob Lees said: “As part of our investigation we have arrested a 37-year-old man. He remains in custody while enquiries continue.

“I’d urge anyone who was in the areas of the town centre and Mobberley Road between the hours of 11 pm on Saturday 11 May and 5 am on Sunday 12 May to contact us with any information that may help us with our investigation.

“We understand this may cause some concern in the community and have increased in patrols in the area to provide reassurance.”
