Following the permanent closure of two local waste sites the road past The Rising Sun on Congleton Road is in danger of becoming permanently gridlocked with traffic.
Owing to the volume of visitors to Macclesfield’s Congleton Road tip, traffic is backing up all the way to The Flower Pot traffic lights to the north and Gawsworth crossroads to the south.
Not only is that presenting huge problems for traffic movements, but emergency vehicles are facing serious delays – to the point alternative routes avoiding the Rising Sun area are having to be planned.
And, as a direct result of the closure of Bollington and Poynton waste recycling centres, Macclesfield tip is struggling to cope with demand from residents anxious to dump their waste.
One thing’s for certain, it’s going to be a baptism of fire for Cheshire East’s new Executive Director for Place, Phil Creswell.
He may not realise it yet, but he’ll have to roll his sleeves up and really earn the circa £175,000 he’s being paid.
