Aided by a Macclesfield company, The University of Cambridge has launched a new digital platform designed to transform health and safety management across its departments.
The Safety Hub, developed in partnership with Macclesfield-based, human-centred design agency, Nexer Digital, provides a centralised resource to improve risk recording, standardise safety practices, and clarify responsibilities, making the University a safer place to work, study, and visit.
By placing users at the heart of the design process, the platform ensures that safety tools and information are intuitive, accessible, and tailored to meet the needs of all staff and departments.
Built on the University’s existing Microsoft technology, the Safety Hub simplifies how departments handle health and safety tasks. From recording hazards to sharing guidance, the platform offers tools that reduce administrative burdens while enhancing transparency and accountability. Features such as a searchable Safety Library, a Role Register to track departmental safety contacts, and a Risk Reporting Tool empower staff to identify and address risks effectively.
Nexer Digital’s user-centred approach was pivotal to the Hub’s development. Through extensive research and collaboration, the design team ensured the platform addressed real-world challenges faced by users. Feedback gathered during testing shaped the final product, resulting in a tool that is not only functional but also easy to navigate and understand.
