After 50 years of dedicated work and effort, the Friends of Macclesfield Silk Heritage has come to an end.
Formed in 1981, Friends of Macclesfield Silk Heritage was set up by a group of Macclesfield folk – passionate about the town’s silk heritage – with the primary purpose of realising a Silk Museum for Macclesfield
Susan Howell, former Honorary Secretary of the Friends said: “After nearly 50 years the Friends of Macclesfield Silk Heritage have had to make the difficult decision to wind up, owing to a reduced membership and the failure of volunteers to step forward to take up positions on the Committee.
The dissolution of the charity will take place on 31st March 2025, by which time all monies held by the charity will have been donated to the Silk Heritage Trust.”
Whilst it is very sad to lose this important group, the members achieved their aim of securing a Silk Museum for Macclesfield. The Silk Heritage Trust continues its important work and welcomes donations as well as voluntary help in all kinds of ways. Paradise Mill continues to be the gem in the town’s attraction, with enhancements underway.
