Sara and Nicola trekking to Snowdon

Local mum-of-three Sara Lord is set to embark on her latest challenge to raise vital funds for Macclesfield Hospital. 

Driven by her personal experiences, Sara, 55, who lives in Goostrey, will be walking, with her close friend Nicola, an incredible 230 km in June. Not your usual walk but a trek from Manchester Piccadilly to the summit of Snowdon and back, over five days. 

This won’t be Sara’s first endeavour to support her local hospital. She successfully completed five walking marathons over five consecutive days in 2019, raising an impressive £5200 for the hospital’s intensive care unit, following her father’s five-week battle with sepsis.

Since then, her husband has faced recurring illness, inspiring Sara to take on a new challenge and give back once more.

She said: “My three children were all born at the hospital, my dad got sepsis too. Although the outcome did not swing in our favour, the staff on the ICU unit were amazing. 

“I felt it was time to give back again after my husband’s experience and decided to take on a new challenge: walking from Manchester Piccadilly to the summit of Snowdon and back down with my close friend Nicola. 

“Since planning this, we have also welcomed a new member of our family, thanks to the hospital, who delivered my first grandchild, Delphine, via a non-elective C-section.

“I have had many experiences with the hospital and it’s Trust and feel we are so lucky to have the services available to us.

“We have so much to thank them for and that is why I want to raise more money this time.”
