Bronze medallist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Karriss Artingstall, handed out the trophies when Macclesfield Boys Club celebrated their 20th anniversary.
Macclesfield had eight winners from nine bouts, including James Rowlinson, reports Boxing News Online.
There was big support for the 24-year-old cruiserweight as he returned from an eight-year break and he sent his supporters home happy by outpointing Lewis Crawford (Rainford).
They were straight down to business unloading heavy punches and Rowlinson handed Crawford an ‘eight’ count on the way to winning unanimously.
Marley Hall made it six wins out of six by jabbing his way to a unanimous points win over Asid Bagi (Clayton) in a Youth contest at 70kgs and Laim Jay Hampson was another who improved to 6-0.
Hampson, gold medallist at last year’s Manchester Box Cup, proved hard to match and edged out Sean Boswell (Fleetwood), while clubmate Lewis Fitzpatrick was celebrating his first win.
Beaten in his first three contests, he handed Sean Givens (Croxteth) a count with a precise southpaw back hand to help set up a unanimous points win and earn the Boxer of the Night trophy.
Bella Oliver threw non-stop punches to outpoint Lillia Gent (Newark) at 38kgs and in one of the best bouts of the show, George Oliver outpointed Jenson Almond (Finest).
Both went into the Youth match at 53kgs with solid CVs and Oliver just had the edge throughout to grab the decision.
Coach Kevin Bradbury regards Liam Barnes as “one of the hardest-working kids in the gym” and his hard work is paying off.
He lost narrowly to Lennon Blinkhorn in a championship bout and was able to turn the tables in a technical match at 46kgs. Barnes won a split decision.
The improving Martin Doherty missed out against Ronny Barnes (Stubby’s) at 48kgs.
Doherty took a little too long to find his way into the contest. Barnes won the opening two rounds before Doherty found his groove in the last. Bradbury went as far as to say his boxer outclassed Barnes in the final round, but he had no complaints after the decision went against Doherty.
