Cheshire police claim young firebugs’ actions could have devastating consequences.
Officers were called to Danes Moss last Saturday (April 19) responding to reports of arson at the local beauty spot.
They have appealed for witnesses adding they are working with the fire service, schools and Cheshire Rural Crime officers to prevent reoccurences.
Danes Moss is home to a variety of endangered species, including the willow tit. Plans to build 590 homes, a school, link road and businesses on part of the site have been the focus of numerous protests by local action groups.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “We need your help, we have had reports of youths setting fires near to Danes Moss.
“If you see anything suspicious in the area or know anything about this incident please contact us.
“This area is home to lots of wildlife so any wild fires would be devastating. We need your help in protecting the area too.
“Please report anything to us and if you do have children please let them know the dangers of fire and know where they are going and what they are up to.“
Anyone with information about the fires can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
