Macclesfield Town took the points in a scintillating game in the sunshine at Lincoln.
Macc dominated the first half and after John Paul Kissock had tested Paul Farman early on, Fairhurst fired the opening goal. Matthew Barnes-Homer sent in a cross from the right and the striker showed good control to bring it down with his chest and thump the ball past Paul Farman.
However, it was the hosts that finished the half the stronger, spurred on by Jamie Taylor`s 31s- minute equaliser. Nat Brown misjudged a header and after Jaker Sheridan`s lay-off Taylor finished powerfully past the previously-untroubled Lance Cronin in the Macc goal.
Thirteen minutes from the end, Kissock and Fairhurst each had a hand in Macc`s second goal, with the winger winning a penalty after a foul by Andrew Boyce. Lincoln argued that it had been outside the area but, once they were waved away by referee Ross Joyce, Fairhurst stepped up.
Farman saved his spot-kick, and the follow-up from Barnes-Homer but the striker kept his cool to fire his second opportunity into the top corner for a 2-1 lead.
New signing Chris Holroyd entered the fray and straight away he sealed victory. Barnes-Homer slid the Preston striker in and he finished neatly over Farman.
The Imps fought back and after Boyce netted to make it 3-2, deep into nailbiting injury time, the wrong-footed Cronin secured the points after Alan Power`s free kick was deflected by Peter Winn.
