The outstanding Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra will be back at Buxton Opera House tomorrow, with the dreamy sounds of Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune.
Following the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic’s summer performance of The Last Waltz, an all-Strauss programme presented by John Suchet, the orchestra will be making a welcome return on Wednesday 9 November at 7pm.
Along with Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, the masterpiece by French impressionist composer Debussy, the programme will feature Mozart’s Concerto in A major for Clarinet & Orchestra and Brahms, Symphony No. 3 in F major.
Joining the orchestra for this special concert will be Benjamin Mellefont, who was appointed Principal Clarinetist of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in October 2015. Mellefont began playing the clarinet in 2002 and studied at the Royal College of Music in London. He has won numerous competitions and prizes and is an alumnus of the London Sinfonietta Academy and Britten-Pears Young Artists Programme.
Conducting this concert will be Romania’s Cristian Mandeal, who has enjoyed a stunning international career. One of his most recent recordings was the 2007 reissue on Arte Nova Classics of the Brahms Symphony No. 1 and Academic Festival Overture with the Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Opera House is offering a limited number of Gardens Tickets which includes pre-performance beverages, canapés in the stunning adjoining Pavilion Garden’s Conservatory together with a concert programme and cloakroom service.
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic last year celebrated their 175th anniversary and this is their third full-scale concert at Buxton Opera House. Since their much acclaimed residency in November 2015, the orchestra is becoming firm favourites with audiences in Buxton with standing ovations for each production.
