Cheshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in Congleton.
At approximately 00:10 on Saturday 21 January two men followed the victim as he left a pub on Lawton Street. A short distance away an altercation occurs and the victim is pushed to the ground and assaulted, suffering facial injuries.
A witness noticed the assault and intervened, causing the offenders to make off from the town centre in the direction of Bromley Road.
Both men are described as being white, with dark coloured hair, facial stubble and were wearing casual clothing.
A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of GBH, assault and possessing a controlled drug. A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of GBH. Both men have been bailed pending further enquires.
Officers would particularly like to speak to anyone who was in the town centre at around the time the assault took place.
