The Multi Activity Centre (MAC) in Macclesfield celebrated the opening of its new indoor bouldering wall, with local MP, David Rutley, formally opening the facility at a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The addition of a bouldering wall is the realisation of a long held ambition for the Centre, which has wanted to expand the range of activities it provides for some time. The construction of a bouldering wall has been made possible by the generous sponsorship of Decipher, a quantity surveying and construction management company based in Macclesfield, and support from Macclesfield Town Council.
David, who is the co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Mountaineering and a lifelong climbing enthusiast, was delighted to have the opportunity to not only open but also to test out the new facility, which is the first bouldering wall to be built in the town.
The MAC is a community interest company and is committed to improving recreational facilities for the people of Macclesfield and the wider community. It aims to keep its prices low and any profits made are re-invested to further improve the Centre. The main activity at the Centre is roller-skating and it also has a cafe and a community room, which is being actively used by all age groups. Cheshire East Council has worked closely with the Centre throughout its development, and has also provided financial support for the project.
Following the ceremony, David said, “It has been an honour and pleasure to officially open the bouldering wall at the Macclesfield Activity Centre. This is a great addition to the facility, which has quickly established itself within the local community.
“I would like to thank Andy Brooks, who founded the MAC, for his vision in developing the project, and also Decipher and Macclesfield Town Council for their generous support. I look forward to seeing the Activity Centre continue to make positive progress in the year ahead.”
